Inclined fiber and interface debonding

A plate of side L carries a center fiber at angle theta under remote tension. The interface starts elastic and then debonds. Turn the fiber and raise the load to see load transfer give way to slip.

Geometry & BCs (as in schematic)

  • Plate: square domain of side $L=100$ mm
  • Fiber: centered segment, length $\ell_f=0.4L$, orientation $\bar{\theta}$
  • Bottom: supported (vertical restraint)
  • Top: uniform remote tension $\bar{\sigma}_{yy}$

Interface stages

  • Linear elastic: $\tau = K_s\, \delta_t$ while $\tau<\tau_c$
  • Initiation: peaks near fiber tips under remote tension
  • Debonding: fronts grow from both tips toward the center
  • Green = bonded · amber = softening · rose = debonded
